Valentines' Day Ruins Cavaliers Perfect Season

From the outset, BBC took the lead as Valentine got his team on the board with a baseline jumper.  From that point on, the Defenders never surrendered their lead to the Cavaliers.  Despite the cold temperature in Clarks Summit, PA, the Defenders started out 7-for-7 from the floor.

Vernon Robinson would get an easy, fast break layup with 12:29 to go in the first, making the score 21-19, in favor of the Defenders.  From there, BBC went on a quick 8-0 run, highlighted by back to back threes from Valentine.  That lead would extend to 16, 43-27, with just over 5:30 left in the half.

Valentine would knock down a pair of free throws before the half to send BBC into the locker room up by 16.

At the half, it was the speech of Adam Brinkley that ignited the spark in the team for the second half.  No doubt, the Cavaliers have been in similar situations and remained confident in their talent to make a comeback in the second half.

Despite nursing an injury, Coach Kahn was forced to play the CSAC's premier player, Aaron Walton-Moss, more than he wanted.  Dan Dodd would start the half with a bucket, but Walton-Moss would push to take over, as he scored 10 of the team's first 18 points to start the second half.  Vinny Walls also put pressure on the Defenders defense, as he shot 12-of-18 and went for 29 points.

The 2012-13 CSAC Player of the Year, Walton-Moss, would cut the BBC lead to 5 with 11:13 remaining, capping off a 9-0 run from the Cavaliers.  As the tension mounted, BBC made two huge plays.  Valentine would knock down a big three, and on the next possession, the Defenders would get two offensive rebounds, leading to a clutch three from Luke Peterson, which would put BBC back up by 11.

Every time Cabrini College made a push, Coach Show and his team had the answer.  The Defenders came storming back and went up 88-72, thanks to an "and one" by Jordan Greve.

Forced to gamble, the Cavaliers looked to Fran Rafferty to cash in on a few three pointers to cut down the Defender lead. That move was not enough for the Cavaliers, as the Defenders walked away from the game with a convincing 106-97 victory.

In his final chance to knock off a top 25 team, Luke Peterson scored 16 points, going 4-of-7 from deep.  Jordan Greve nearly matched his classmate, netting 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting and earned 2 steals.  The senior center, Dodd, added 11 points as Decker cashed in 12.  With ice in his veins down the stretch, freshman point guard, Dan McGuigan hit big free throw after big free throw, going 8-of-10 from the line and tallying 12 total points.

The Defenders amassed 19 assists to 15 turnovers and forced the usually productive Walton-Moss into 4 turnovers and just one assist.

BBC will be back in action on Monday as they host Cairn University at 7:00.
