BROCKPORT, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Gordon Lyons totaled game-highs with 22 points and 14 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the season, but it was No. 20 Brockport holding on for the 73-68 overtime victory, Saturday night, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball action.
"I thought defensively, we did a good job holding a high-scoring offense under 60 points through regulation," said head coach Steve Minton. "Brockport made some big shots during a run in the second half that were tough to overcome and we had some turnovers during some critical situations which will cost you against a team like that."
A back-and-forth battle the entire night, Geneseo used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to to turn a tie ballgame, 34-34, into a 45-34 lead with 9:54 left in regulation. The Golden Eagles would bounce back to tie the game, 46-46, with 5:38 remaining, and neither team could pull away down the stretch.
Tied, 58-58, after regulation, Brockport (16-1, 10-0 SUNYAC) would finally pull away, out-scoring the Knights 15-10 to remain undefeated in the league.
Senior guard Connor Fedge added 18 points, including 7-of-7 free throws
The Knights return to action next weekend, hosting Potsdam on Friday at 8:00 p.m., before entertaining Plattburgh on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
