Nelson, Titans Clobber Augustana, 84-69

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Junior Jordan Nelson knocked in 25 points with the help of six 3-pointers, to pace the No. 5-ranked Illinois Wesleyan men's basketball to an 84-69 win over Augustana at the Shirk Center on Wednesday (Feb. 5).

The Titans improved to 17-3 and 7-2 in the in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin while the Vikings lost for the fourth straight time and slipped to 15-5 overall and 5-5 in the conference.

Nelson had 19 of his points and five 3-pointers in seven tries in the first half to stake the Titans to a 44-31 halftime edge. Augie never was closer than 13 points in the second half and IWU led by as many as 25 with 6:10 to play in the game (78-53). Wesleyan shot .522 in the second half from the field (12 of 23).

IWU led in all but one possession of the game as Augie scored first to hold a 2-0 lead with 18:45 to play in the game, but a 3-pointer by Andrew Ziemnik made it 3-2 IWU with 18:20 to go before halftime and the Titans led the rest of the game with no ties.

IWU had a 40-37 lead in rebounding and committed 13 turnovers compared to nine for the Vikings. The Titans handed out 19 assists on their 27 baskets.
