Arlington, Va. – Marymount University's men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating Capital Athletic Conference newcomer Southern Virginia 79-64 on Wednesday night.  The Saints improve to 13-7 overall but the game does not count in the league standing because the Knights are in their final year of the NCAA reclassification process.

Reed Scott led the Saints with his third straight double-double, and seventh on the season, with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Tim Brisco added 14 points while Jesse Konadu chipped in 11.

A back-and-forth first half saw four ties and three lead changes between the two squads.  Southern Virginia (4-13) used a 7-0 run early in the opening frame to take a 9-5 lead but the Saints held their ground and wouldn't let their visitors pull away.  Marymount steadily chipped away at the deficit before taking a 15-14 lead on an Antonio Rouse layup at the 9:51 mark.

The Knights stayed with the Blue and White the rest of the half but couldn't regain the lead despite forcing three more tie scores, including at 25-25 with 1:50 remaining.  Marymount closed out the frame on a 5-0 run, capped by a Konadu layup as time expired, to take a 30-25 lead into halftime.

Opening the second half on a 7-0 run, the Saints quickly pushed their lead to 37-25 in less than two minutes.  Marymount would hold a double-figure the majority of the rest of the game, not leading by fewer than eight points, and push its advantage to as many as 18 in the frame.

Chris Baker led Southern Virginia with a game-high 19 points.

Marymount returns to action on Saturday as it travels to face York (Pa.) in CAC competition.
