The Albright College men's basketball team didn't trail in regulation, but ultimately lost a 90-87 heartbreaker in double-overtime at #22 Messiah.

The Lions tied the ball up with three seconds left in the second extra period, trailing 88-87, and had a chance to inbounds for the winning play. Albright committed a five-second violation however, and the Falcons escaped after adding two free throws at the other end.

Taylor Groff's basket with 40 seconds left proved to be the winner. He was fouled on the play but missed the and-one opportunity. Messiah had forced overtime with David Fernandez' buzzer-beater after the Lions missed a pair of free throws with three seconds left in regulation.

Messiah' Brad Bolen had 10 points in the first overtime, including two threes and then a pair of free throws to put the Falcons up 77-74 with 25 seconds remaining. Albright freshman Sameen Swint drew a foul by Bolen behind the arc however, and calmly sank all three shots as the Red and White forced a second overtime.

Swint had 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Senior Pedro Perez added 22 points (9-of-15), eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Classmate Kyle Jordan had a double-double (17 points, 12 rebounds) and Calvert Gantz totaled 14 points and seven boards.

Messiah missed a handful of three-point looks down the stretch as the Lions held a 64-60 lead in the final two minutes. Albright turned it over on consecutive possessions however, and Messiah took advantage to tie the contest.

Swint made a pair of free throws with 25 seconds left to put Albright ahead 66-64, and Messiah missed a three with six seconds remaining. Gantz could have locked it up at the free throw line but missed both, and Fernandez drove for two at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.

Gantz opened the scoring and then converted a layup to give Albright an early 10-4 advantage. Jordan pulled down a rebound and then finished off a three-point play the next time down the floor.

Gantz' put-back off his own miss gave Albright a double-digit lead, 15-4, just five minutes into the game and forced Messiah to take a timeout.

The sophomore center finished again for a 19-4 Albright lead, before Groff canned a three-pointer to finally get the Falcons into the game.

Jordan converted the and-one to put Albright up 24-9 with 12:03 remaining in the first half. The Falcons closed the second half strong, cutting the deficit to 36-30 at the break.

Josh Marquez finished off a three-point play on a hard drive with 9:15 remaining to give the Red and White a 57-48 lead.

Fernandez stole a pass in the backcourt with under seven minutes to play and was fouled, completing the three-point play to keep Messiah within four. Jordan and Swint added free throws to Albright's advantage, but a Bolen three-pointer kept the Falcons in it, trailing just 62-58.

Bolen made 4-of-11 from behind the arc and totaled a game-high 32 points. Fernandez added 18 points for the Falcons, who used just seven players in 50 minutes of action.

The Lions fall to 10-9, 6-6 and will host rival Alvernia on Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the Bollman Center.
