Senior Duo Powers #20 Brockport Past Cortland

John Ivy (Rochester, NY/East) and Brandon Caruthers (Rochester, NY/East) combined for 42 points as The College at Brockport men's basketball team, ranked 20th in the country, recorded their 14th straight victory with a 89-71 win over Cortland in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) matchup on Tuesday evening at Brockport.

The game remained close in the opening minutes, as Brockport (15-1, 9-0 SUNYAC) and Cortland (10-7, 5-5 SUNYAC) traded the lead back-and-forth. Brockport gained an advantage and eventually control with a 11-0 run that started off of a three pointer from Matt Lee (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa) at 9:28 to put the Golden Eagles up by 10 points.

Brockport closed out the first half on a 15-4 run to take a 16 point lead heading into halftime.

The Golden Eagles continued to dominate in the second half. A layup from Caruthers at 18:21 gave Brockport its largest lead of the game at 21.

Brockport was able to hold off any Cortland threat with their high shooting percentage. The closest the Red Dragons would come was 14 points with 9:32 left to play in the game.

Brockport finished the game shooting an impressive 56.3% (9-16) from long range, 91.7% (22-24) from the free throw line and 55.8% from the floor. On top of strong shooting, the Golden Eagles also forced Cortland into 20 turnovers.

Ivy led scoring for the Golden Eagles with 26 points, hitting 9 of 15 field goals and all eight of his free throws. Caruthers finished with 16 points and four assists, while freshman Aaron White (North Tonawanda, NY/Canisius) added 11 points and three steals. Senior Bobby Bell (Rochester, NY/East) chipped in nine, sinking all three of his three point jumpers. Defensively, Patrick Coyle (North Chili, NY/Bishop Kearney) recorded four blocks and pulled down a team-high five rebounds.
