Buffalo State Tops Fredonia, 86-79

BUFFALO, NY—Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) and Roderick Epps (Uniondale/Uniondale) combined to score 49 points to lead Buffalo State (9-8/5-5) to an 86-79 home victory over Fredonia (4-13/1-9) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.

Mitchell netted a game-high 26 points on 10 of 14 shooting to go with a team-best nine rebounds.  Epps netted 23 points and was 6 of 6 at the free throw line in the final minute to ice the game.  Chris Boyd (Buffalo/East) added 10 points off the bench, and Bradley Doyley (Brooklyn/Sports Management) dished out eight assists.

John Kovach (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River) led Fredonia with 23 points and nine rebounds.  Robert Lyles (Peekskill/Peekskill) added 21 points, and Tyrone Clark (Elmira/Elmira Free) had 18 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and four steals. 

Buffalo State led by as many as 15 in the first half, but a late Fredonia run cut the difference to 45-38 at halftime.   The Bengals pushed the lead to 11 with three minutes remaining in the regulation, but the Blue Devils made another late half run to cut the margin to 80-77 with 25 seconds left.  The Bengals were able to put the game away at the free throw line. 

Buffalo State dominated the glass, outrebounding Fredonia, 47-29.  The Bengals shot 46-percent from the field, and Fredonia high 48-percent.

Buffalo State will host Oswego this Friday at 8 p.m.
