HAMBURG, N.Y. - Five Hawks hit double-digit scoring numbers, propelling the Hawks to an 88-68 win over the visiting Barons of Franciscan University. Hilbert beat Franciscan in their previous meeting in December, coming away with an 87-81 overtime victory. The Hawks, who are tied for first place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, advanced to 14-3 (9-2 AMCC), while the Barons fell to 4-13 (3-9 AMCC).

Franciscan's Moses Sullivan led all scorers with 21 points, while shooting 4-7 from behind the arc. The Hawks were led by Trevor Stark's 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists.

Jalen Smith finished the afternoon with 15 points on 6-9 shooting, while Nick Nadeau added another 14 on 3-5 shooting, including 2-2 from long-range and 6-6 from the line. Sean Weisansal chipped in 10 points and four of the Hawks five blocks. CJ Hodge had a complete game with 10 points, seven assists, and six steals.

The difference in this afternoon's contest was Hilbert's 53.6% field-goal shooting compared to Franciscan's 36.2%. The Hawks also outrebounded the Barons 40-33.

Hilbert came out firing on all cylinders and jumped ahead early. Stark's jumper at 15:04 began a 12-2 run by the Hawk's, giving them a 14-point lead. A steal by Jalen Smith, at 6:07, led to a layup by Hodge to give the Hawks a 22 point lead, their largest of the first half. Franciscan made runs but they were never able to cut the lead to single digits. The Hawks finished the half with a 45-32 advantage, including 14 points by Stark.

The Barons continued to make runs in the second half and back-to-back three pointers by Moses Smith cut the lead to 11 at 15:06. Over the next three minutes the Hawks went on a 10-2 run, capped off by a Smith three-pointer, which extended the lead back to 20.

Jordan Kumro continued his perfect shooting streak as he made three buckets (2 behind the arc) for 8 points today, after going six for six this past Thursday against D'Youville College.

The Hawks achilles heel this season has been their inconsistent free throw shooting, but today they finished the game shooting 77.3% on 17-22 shooting.

Hilbert is back on the hardwood at Medaille on Wednesday, January 29th at 6pm. Medaille had the upper hand in their previous contest, winning 82-73.
