Senior Dylan Farinet scored a team-high 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the 15th ranked University of Mary Washington men's basketball team to a 63-57 win at York College on Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 15-2 overall and 8-1 in league play.

In a slow, halfcourt offense paced game, both teams were content to work the shot clock. The Spartans held a 5-2 advantage through the first five minutes, and was tied at six through nine minutes of play.

York took a 10-9 advantage before Farinet hit a three pointer with 9:55 to go to give the Eagles an 11-10 lead. After a York layup, John Yoxthimer connected for a three pointer to up the advantage to 14-12. A three pointer by freshman Asa Scott with 3:57 left to give the Eagles a 24-19 lead. York closed the half on an 11-5 run to take a 30-29 lead to halftime.

York scored the first four points of the second half, but a Farinet three cut the deficit to 37-35 with 16:28 to play. A Scott three gave the Eagles the lead at 42-39, and three pointers from junior Taylor Johnson and senior Marcellus Holley upped the Eagle lead to nine at 52-43 with 9:55 to play.

The Eagles pushed the lead to as many as 11 down the stretch, with York able to cut the deficit to as few as four before Johnson and Farinet connected on free throw attempts to push the final to 63-57.

"A good road win against a tough team", said UMW head coach Rod Wood afterward. "They had a good game plan, played well, and executed it. In our league, on the road, if you're not ready to go at the tip, teams will fight you, and that's what they did." 

In addition to Farinet's 13 points, Morra and Dajon Daniel each scored 10 points and Scott added eight for UMW. The Eagles won despite shooting 21-60 from the floor, making 10-36 three point shots.

Mary Washington will host Frostburg State University on Wednesday at 8:00 pm in another CAC contest.
