La Roche Beats D'Youville in AMCC Conference Game

BUFFALO, NY – The Redhawks (11-6, 7-3) sunk six free throws in the final minute to break a tie game and upend D'Youville College (1-17, 1-10) 78-73 on Saturday in AMCC Conference play.

La Roche ended the first half on a 15-3 run to take a 35-29 lead into the locker room. The Redhawks made 5 of 10 three pointers and outrebounded D'Youville by twelve to build the halftime lead.

The visiting Redhawks widened the gap in the second half and led by as many as fifteen points but the Spartans chipped away at the lead until it was tied at 72-72 with 54 seconds left. La Roche answered with tough defense and two big rebounds by Jean Freeman and David Jackson. Jackson, Daron Tabron, and Torin Smith all made important free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

Jackson led the Redhawks with 16 points and finished just a rebound shy of a double-double. Zaire Redding registered 13 points and 12 rebounds and Tabron scored 13 points off of the bench. Jean Freeman netted 9 points while Smith and Neal McKown scored 8 points each.

La Roche controlled the glass outrebounding D'Youville 49-27 and outscoring them 18-1 on second chance points. The Redhawks turned the ball over 27 times, but also shot 50% from both the floor (25 of 50) and three point range (6 of 12) to secure the victory.

Next up for the men's basketball team is Penn State Altoona. David Jackson had 23 points and 11 rebounds when the Redhawks beat Altoona earlier this year.
