NYU Topped by #7 Washington

The New York University men's basketball team fell on the road 81-65 to #7 Washington University-St. Louis in St. Louis at the WU Field House on Sunday afternoon, January 19. The Violets now fall to 1-2 in University Athletic Association (UAA) play.

NYU (11-3, 1-2 UAA) was unable to hand the Bears (12-2, 3-0 UAA) their first Association loss of the season on Sunday. Washington won the game from the three-point line, shooting 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from beyond the arc.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- Sophomore forward Evan Kupferberg led the Violets with 16 points and seven rebounds.

- Senior co-captain guard Ryan Tana scored 11 points and was 5-of-6 from the foul line.

- Sophomore center Costis Gontikas scored 10 points.

- Freshman forward Alec Papesch pulled down a game-high-tying 11 rebounds, while chipping in seven points.

- Sophomore forward Patrick Burns and junior guard Iyoha Agho each scored six points as well.

- Matt Palucki led the effort for Washington, scoring 29 points with 11 rebounds. He was 5-of-7 from three-point range.

NYU will be back in action next weekend when it hosts Emory University and the University of Rochester at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan. The Violets are scheduled to tip-off with the Eagles at 8:00 pm on Friday night, January 24, following the completion of the women's game versus Emory. The game against the Yellowjackets is scheduled for 12:00 pm on Sunday, January 26.
