PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Jack Bramswig (Pleasantville, N.Y./Pleasantville) scored a game-high 22 points to become the 24th player in program history to score 1,000 career points as the Manhattanville men's basketball team picked up a key 67-62 Freedom Conference victory over Wilkes on Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Gym.

Coming into the game needing 17 points to reach the career milestone, Bramswig had a game-best 14 points in the opening 20 minutes, shooting 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line. He sunk two more freebies to get within one, setting up arguably the most appropriate basket possible for his 1,000th: after a missed three produced a long rebound, sophomore Anthony Maestre (Bronx, N.Y./Mount St. Michael Academy) ran down the left side and tossed a perfect alley-oop toward the rim for Bramswig, who slammed it home and sent the crowd into hysterics.

In addition to his milestone achievement, Bramswig had another solid all-around effort with five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks as well. The senior finished the day with 1,005 career points, placing him 23rd all-time at Manhattanville and 82 points away from a spot in the all-time top 20.

Three other Valiants reached double figures, led by Maestre with 16 points to go with six boards, three steals and two assists. Senior Colin Campbell (Miami, Fla./LaSalle) added 13 points while sophomore Juan Camacho (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/New Horizons) chipped in 10 and a game-high eight rebounds as well for Manhattanville (6-9, 2-2 Freedom).

Wilkes (6-8, 1-3 Freedom) was led by Alec Wizar with 17 points, followed by Cameron Hinkel and Steve Stravinski with 13 points apiece.

Bramswig had six of Manhattanville's first eight points to put the Valiants ahead early, and the home team never trailed in the contest. The team's halftime advantage of 11 points (33-22) was its largest of the half, coming on a pair of Bramswig free throws with 39 seconds remaining. The Valiants had a 20-6 edge in the paint over the first 20 minutes and also converted 11 Wilkes turnovers into 15 points, as the squad shot an even 50.0 percent (14 of 28) from the field while the Colonels hit only 7 of 28 shots (25.0 percent).

Manhattanville cooled down slightly in the second half, but the Valiants still had no trouble closing out the Colonels. After a Stravinski layup to begin the frame, the Valiants scored eight straight to build up their largest lead of the game at 41-24 on two Bramswig free throws with 17:09 left. The advantage remained in double figures for much of the half, although Wilkes did get the lead down to six twice, including a second time with 1:05 remaining. A Maestre free throw made it a seven-point lead, and the sophomore made two more key free throws with 23 seconds left to get the lead back up to seven and seal the contest for the home team.

Manhattanville finished the day at 46.2 percent (24 for 52) from the field, as well as 77.3 percent (17 for 22) from the charity stripe. Wilkes shot just 34.3 percent (22 for 64) from the field in the loss.

Following their first conference win of the year, the Valiants look to keep the momentum going on Wednesday when the squad travels to Delaware Valley for an 8 p.m. meeting with the Aggies.
