NORTON, Mass.—Junior John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) posted his second consecutive double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds as Babson College blasted Wheaton College, 80-59, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, Babson is now 11-4 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC, while Wheaton drops to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in league play.

First-year Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) also netted 20 points for the Beavers while senior Matt Palazini (Franklin, Mass.) scored 10 of his 15 points in the opening half. Junior David Mack(Holden, Mass.) contributed 11 points and a career-high 16 boards in the win.

First-year Agyei Gregory (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) led the Lyons with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while junior Mike Cannon (New York, N.Y.) added 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

Babson started fast, using hoops from four different players to take an 11-0 lead just 3:48 into the game. Wheaton pulled within 21-9 at the 11:47 mark but a layup from Flannery, two Palazini free throws, and back-to-back hoops from Mack and first-year Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) keyed a 9-2 run that put the Beavers up 30-11 with 7:56 left before halftime.

The Green and White, which led 37-29 at the break, shot 51.6 percent (16-for-31) in the opening 20 minutes and outscored the Lyons 24-14 in the paint.

Wheaton got within 10 early in the second half but the Beavers put the game out of reach with a 16-5 run. Flannery started the spurt with a pair of free throws, followed by back-to-back dunks, and Wickey drilled consecutive three-pointers to make it 64-42 with 10:03 to play.

Babson pushed its lead to as many as 27 on two occasions in the closing minutes.

The Beavers  shot 44.6 percent (29-for-65) in the win and held a 47-38 advantage on the glass. They also outscored Wheaton 44-24 in the paint and 19-9 off turnovers, while holding the Lyons to just 31.7 percent (20-for-63) shooting.

Babson will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts MIT at 7 p.m., while Wheaton will be at Fisher on Monday at 2 p.m.

GAME NOTES: Babson is now 27-11 all-time against the Lyons and has won eight straight in the series going back to 2011, and have won five consecutive games at Wheaton since 2009…The Beavers are 9-0 this season when leading at halftime…Babson is now 6-1 on the year when scoring 80 points or more…the Beavers have won five of their last seven road games against NEWMAC foes.
