BRONX, N.Y. – Junior Jonathan Greenfield made several key shots down the stretch, leading host Lehman College to a 78-71 men's basketball victory over visiting Baruch College, in an important CUNY Athletic Conference match up on Wednesday night.

Greenfield was named the John Conboy Memorial Most Valuable Player, as he sparked a rally with four minutes to go in the game to propel Lehman (9-6, 4-3 CUNYAC) to victory. The Bearcats (7-8, 4-3 CUNYAC) had held a slim two-point lead at the 4:17 mark, before a Greenfield steal and breakaway layup sparked a 7-0 run that changed the course of the game. During that run, the Lehman defense forced turnovers on three straight Baruch offensive possessions.

The Lightning had built a 71-65 lead with just under one minute to play in the game, when sophomore Jerrome Jones (Bronx, N.Y./Mt. Vernon) hit a mid-range jumper. Baruch rallied with three-pointers on back-to-back possessions by Edward Roscigno and Matt Feldman. Thankfully, Lehman's Kevan Proctor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) made a free throw in the middle of those threes, and Lehman held a one point lead, 72-71, with 13 seconds to play.

Lehman inbounded the ball after the last Baruch three-pointer, and with nine seconds remaining in the game, senior guard Stanley Stephens (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) had an uncontested layup. However, Baruch's Joshua Gener gave Stephens a bearhug, preventing a shot attempt. For that, Gener received a flagrant foul, which sent Stephens to the free throw line, and gave possession back to the Lightning. However, a technical foul was also assessed to the Baruch bench, after the coaching staff vehemently objected to the call. Stephens then went to the line for four foul shots, and promptly made all of them, putting Lehman back up by five points.

Greenfield then made a pair of free throws in the waning seconds, for the 78-71 final score.

Greenfield would finish with 27 points, which led all scorers. He made nine of his 15 shots from the field, and grabbed five rebounds. Jones was the game's second leading scorer, with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Kelvin Gil (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes), who has picked up his game recently, added 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Stephens recorded 11 points.

With the victory, Lehman leapfrogs Baruch in the CUNYAC standings, moving up to third place. The Lightning will host second-place York College on Saturday, January 18, at 3:00 p.m. The game is part of Lehman College's Homecoming activities, and will follow the annual Alumni Game.
