Hot-Shooting Hamilton Helps R-MC Humble Shenandoah

WINCHESTER, Va. – Junior Chris Hamilton (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) was a perfect 5 for 5 on three-pointers to lead Randolph-Macon past Shenandoah 103-80 Wednesday evening in ODAC action at Shingleton Gymnasium.

The Yellow Jackets (10-4, 4-1 ODAC) have won six straight and nine of their past 10.

R-MC had six players score in double figures. Hamilton and freshman Jamie Wilson (West Point, Va./West Point) both led the team with 15 off the bench. Junior Joe Hassell (Portsmouth, Va./Indian River) added 13, junior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) dropped a dozen, while senior Andre Simon (Newport News, Va./Menchville) and sophomore Lamont Moore (Waverly, Va./Tidewater Academy) both scored 11.

The Hornets (10-4, 2-3 ODAC) hit a three-pointer to start the scoring, their only lead of the contest. Moore nailed a trey to quickly tie the game and spark a 12-0 run by the Yellow Jackets. The lead grew to 17 at 23-6 with 7:30 elapsed. R-MC was up 27-12 midway through the period before a 7-0 run by the Hornets closed the margin to eight at 27-19. The Yellow Jackets put together their own 7-0 spurt to take a 34-19 advantage. The lead grew to as much as 18 at 44-26 before R-MC took a 51-38 lead to the locker room at halftime.  Hamilton was 4 for 4 on three-pointers in the first half as the Yellow Jackets went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc.

Shenandoah twice cut the margin to nine early in the second stanza, but a 30-11 run put R-MC on top by 28 at 83-55 with just under eight minutes remaining. The advantage ballooned to as much as 32 (99-67) before the Yellow Jackets posted the 103-80 victory.

R-MC shot 58.6% from the floor (41-70) and 42.9% on three-pointers (9 for 21). The Yellow Jackets held a dominating 40-24 advantage on the boards. Simon, Hassell, Moore and junior Connor Sullivan (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Day School) each pulled down six rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets forced 21 turnovers. Wilson had three of R-MC's 13 steals.

Randolph-Macon plays again on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m., hosting Randolph at Crenshaw Gymnasium.
