GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo junior forward Gordon Lyons scored a game-high 28 points to go along with nine rebounds to lead the Knights to a 85-68 victory over Buffalo State in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's basketball play, Tuesday.
Senor forward Matt Curry and senior guard Connor Fedge each tallied 14 points, while junior forward Devon Anderson came off the bench to compile 10 points and nine rebounds in the victory.
"It's hard not to talk about how well Gordon and Connor played, but we are also consistently getting some great contributions from a lot of other guys," said head coach Steve Minton. "Devon especially stood out on a night where we were able to hold a very high-powered scoring offense to their lowest outputs of the season."
Buffalo State (6-6, 2-3 SUNYAC) jumped out to an early 14-6 lead less than six minutes into the game, but the Knights would respond with a 13-3 run to take a 19-17 lead that it would never relinquish.
Holding a six-point halfime edge, 40-34, Geneseo would start the second half on a 13-4 run to take a 15-point lead, 53-38, with 15:51 to play. The home team would build its lead to as many as 21 points down the stretch on its way to its second-straight win.
Geneseo (8-2, 2-1 SUNYAC) would finish the evening shooting a season-high 61.5 percent from the floor, three days after hitting 60.5 percent of its shots in a 86-74 victory at Potsdam on Saturday. Lyons also finished a point short of the career-high 29 points he totaled in last Friday's 97-85 setback at Plattsburgh.
The Knights will be back in action at home on Friday, hosting SUNYAC foe Cortland in an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
