HAMBURG, N.Y. – After 50 minutes of play, thirteen lead changes and thirteen ties, a winner was finally determined as the horn sounded at the end of the second overtime.

Hilbert College improved to 5-1 and moved into a first-place tie in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference after their 88-86 exciting win over La Roche College. It took ten extra minutes of play to outlast the RedHawks who dropped to 4-2 (8-5 overall)

The 2013-14 team captured their 10th victory today and established a program record for most wins after twelve games.

Junior Trevor Stark earned his first double-double this season finishing with 11 assists and team-high 24 points. Jerame Owens finished with 23 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 blocks. These two players hooked up for the game-winning shot with less than one second remaining in the second overtime.

Hilbert's Nick Nadeau was perfect from the field sinking all four shot attempts, as he grabbed three very important offensive rebounds and assisted on four buckets. Junior Ryan Brewster and freshman Jalen Smith came off the bench and provided big minutes and plays. Smith continued to shine at the three-point line, spotting up for 9 points, turning one long-ball into a four-point play. Brewster played a solid game and held his own in the paint this afternoon. He worked for five offensive rebounds, chipped in 8 points while coming up with one big block in overtime.

La Roche got stealer performances from Lionel Perkins (24 points, 5 assists, 4 steals) and Andre Flanigan (21 points). Perkins played 48 minutes and finished the game shooting 10 of 16 from the floor (2 of 6 beyond the arc). Neil McKown added 15 points, while Zaire Redding chipped in 12 points and earned game-high honors in rebounding (13).

The visitors finishing the game scoring three more buckets than Hilbert, but the Hawks made 53% of the three-point shots. Stark and Smith accounted for all seven Hilbert makes.

The Hawks sank six more foul shots than La Roche and ended the game with 25 team assists.

La Roche outscoring the Hawks by 14 points in the paint, but Hilbert's bench proved to be the difference makers outscoring the RedHawks by nine points.

After the first 20-minutes of play, the stat-lines between the two teams were very similar. The only big eye popping the difference was La Roche's three more makes from the foul line.

Hilbert stormed out of the gate with a 5-0 run to take their only lead in the second half at 17:49. That two-point lead (35-33) was only held for 13-seconds before Flanigan got to the rim again for another layup. Hilbert and La Roche went at each other on every possession. The Hawks moved the ball and ran set plays in contrast to La Roche who used their athleticism to get to the rim often times going one-on-one to the hole.

As regulation came to a close, Jerame Owens forced the 11th tie after he sank both foul shots with 25-seconds remaining. Each team miss-fired before the period ended at a 72-72 tie.

In the first five minute over-time period, unlike the 40 minute game, Hilbert held the lead most of the period as La Roche played catch-up and forced the 12th tie of the game. Brewster netted four of the Hawks' seven points and floated over from the weak side of the floor to swat a La Roche shot out of bounds. Nadeau's jumper and CJ Hodge's foul shot kept Hilbert moving into the next period of play.

An offensive rebound-put back by Nadeau started the Hawks rolling after the center jump to start the second OT. Brewster went 1 for 2 at the line giving Hilbert a three point advantage. La Roche responded with a jumper which was followed by an Owens lay-up and two Stark freebies stretching the Hilbert lead to 86-81 at 2:13. The RedHawks responded with a driving layup cutting the difference to three.

Hilbert went cold their next two possessions and hung on as La Roche fired two 3-pointers and a shot in the paint, all the while grabbing each offensive rebound before the ball was kicked out to Flanigan who canned a 3-pointer with 36-seconds left forcing the last tie of the game. Owens and Stark hooked-up for the game winner leaving less than one second left on the clock. La Roche's inbounds pass was batted away and Hilbert took the win.

Pitt-Bradford comes to town next week when Hilbert hosts the Panthers January 15 at 6pm.
