BALTIMORE, MD – Four players scored in double digits as the Johns Hopkins men's basketball team went wire-to-wire in a 73-58 win over visiting Haverford in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Blue Jays improve to 6-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference while the Fords slip to 4-6 overall and 0-5 in the CC. Junior George Bugarinovic led four Blue Jays in double figures with a game-high 18 points.

Hopkins jumped out to a 10-2 lead before Haverford trimmed the deficit back to four with a quick 5-1 burst, capped by a Matt Sherman three-pointer at the 14:23-mark. The teams traded buckets and the Blue Jays led 16-11 after the Fords' Louis Cipriano drained a jumper with 12:08 to play in the half. Bugarinovic came right back with a bucket in the paint to kick-start a 10-2 Hopkins' run as the Jays pushed out to a 26-13 lead. Sophomore Niko Kotoulas accounted for half the Blue Jays' points during the spurt.

The teams went once again went basket for basket before a Daniel Corbett triple and Bugarinovic layup made it a 15-point game at the 3:55-mark. Lucas Colombo came back with a bucket for the Fords, but Corbett answered with another three-pointer and the Blue Jays had their largest lead, 16 points, with 2:48 to go in the half. Four unanswered points by Brett Cohen made it a 12-point game at the break.

Hopkins pushed its lead back to 16 less than two minutes into the second half and maintained a double-digit lead for the next 11 minutes. Trailing 57-43, Haverford chipped the deficit down to eight with 8:05 to play, thanks in part to four straight points from Anthony Reyes. Sophomore Gene Williams pushed the lead to 11 with a three-pointer from the top of the key at 7:17 but a Cohen free throw made it a 60-51 game just 14 seconds later. The Blue Jays came right back with a 5-0 spurt to push their lead back 14, capped by a pair of free throws by Corbett.

An old-fashioned three-point play by Sherman and a Colombo layup sandwiched around a Bugarinovic free throw made it a 66-56 game with 3:05 to go. The teams traded buckets before Hammer and senior Connor McIntyre each hit one of two free throws to push the lead to 12. With 20 seconds to go, Hammer put the punctuation on the win with a bucket from downtown that hit nothing but net off a Bugarinovic inbounds pass.

Bugarinovic finished with his third double double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds while also handing out four assists. Williams and Hammer each scored 13 points, while Corbett finished with 11 and five helpers. Cohen led the Fords with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Colombo added 10 points.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, January 11 as the Blue Jays visit the Swarthmore Garnet. Tip-off at Tarble Pavilion is set for 3:00 pm.
