Keystone's Lunsford Reaches 1,000-Point Plateau in Setback to Scranton

Scranton, PA – Duncan Lunsford (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry) scored the 1000th point of his collegiate career on Tuesday night against the University of Scranton, but it wasn't enough as the Giants dropped a 94-77 decision to the Royals in a non-conference game played at the Lackawanna College Student Union as part of a Coaches vs. Cancer event.  Scranton improves to 8-2 with the victory while Keystone falls to 5-3 on the season with the setback.
 
Lunsford is the 15th player in Giants' history to reach the 1000-point milestone and the junior forward finished with a team-high 32 points in the loss.  Lunsford has scored 176 points this season and is averaging a team-best 22.0 points per game.
 
Over a tightly played first 10 minutes of action, neither team was able to extend their lead beyond 10 points.  Lunsford tied the game at 18-18 with a three pointer at the 11:23 mark before Scranton was able to build a 25-20 lead with 8:14 left in the first half.  Keystone narrowed their deficit to 26-33 with 3:34 showing on the clock after a pair of free throws from Deion Monroe (Kingston, NY/Kingston ), but Royals would outscore the Giants 18-5 to close the half and take a 48-38 lead into halftime.
 
Brendan Boken led Scranton with 23 points and nine rebounds in the first half while Tommy Morgan chipped in 11 points for the Royals.  Scranton shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes of play while going 1-5 from three point range and 3-5 from the free throw line.
 
Lunsford paced Keystone's offense with 17 points in the opening stanza while Jesse Longmire (Harlem, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) netted six points in the period for the Giants, who shot 40 percent from the floor in the half while going 3-11 from beyond the arc and 11-14 from the charity stripe.
 
Keystone climbed to within seven points early in the second half before Scranton used a 12-4 run to push their lead to 15 points, 60-45, with 16:22 remaining in regulation.  Four straight points from Lunsford brought the Giants to back within 11 points, before the Royals stretched their lead out to 68-51.  A three-pointer by Ben Holl (Philadelphia, PA/Friends Select School) cut Scranton's lead to 71-61 midway through the period, but the Royals would outscore the Giants 14-7 over the next five minutes to take a commanding, 85-66 lead with 4:53 to play.
 
Boken led all players with 37 points and 14 rebounds in the victory for Scranton while also blocking six shots.  Ross Danzig scored 25 points for the Royals while pulling down eight boards in the win while Morgan and Justin Klingman netted 13 points apiece.  Scranton connected on 60.7 percent of their field goal attempts for the game while going 2-9 from three point land and 18-24 from the free throw line.
 
In addition to his team-high 32 points, Lunsford also snagged a team-best eight rebounds for Keystone.  Monroe and Miles Dargan (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) contributed nine points apiece in the loss for the Giants while Dan Candemeres (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) dished out a game-high four assists.  DaVaughn Thomas (Port Arthur, TX/Silsbee) led all players with four steals on the night.  For the game, Keystone shot 39.4 percent from the field including a 6-24 effort from beyond the arc and a 19-29 night at the line.
 
Keystone will return to action on Saturday afternoon when the visit Hilbert College for a non-conference game scheduled to tipoff at 3:00 p.m.
