SAN JAUN, Puerto Rico - The Bridgewater College Eagles will leave Puerto Rico with a split after defeating Central Bayamon University, 54-39, Sunday afternoon.
The Eagles led 31-16 at the break and coasted to the victory to improve to 6-4 on the season.
Junior forward Kyle Welty hit double figures for the second straight game and led the Eagles offense with a career-high 15 points. Ronnie Thomas added seven points, five assists and six rebounds as 10 different Eagles broke into the scoring column.
Bridgewater held a decisive 50-38 edge on the boards, led by Kenneth Waugh with a career-high 11 rebounds.
The Eagles hit 48 percent of its first-half shots to open up the big lead before cooling off in the second half when they connected on just 32.5 percent from the field.
Bridgewater's defense forced 17 turnovers in the game and limited Central Bayamon to just 26.2 percent shooting (16-of-61) from the floor.
Geovannie Perez led Central Bayamon with nine points and Edwin Velez pulled down 11 rebounds.
