Millikin races out of halftime locker room to down Stout

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (December 28, 2013) - Millikin University broke a 28-28 halftime score by going on a 15-4 run over the first six minutes of the second half and a 20-5 run over the first 11 minutes of the second half to take a 68-56 win over UW-Stout Saturday at the Land of Magic Classic.

With the scored knotted, Millikin (6-4) opened the second with a 3-pointer by Tives Gardner. The Blue Devils answered back with a lay-up by Aaron Jenny (Sr, Spicer, Minn), the closest Stout (7-3) would get the rest of the night.

Millikin raced out to 43-32 lead six minutes into the half, then spread that out to a 48-33 lead three minutes later. Stout pushed their way to as close as seven points, 58-51, with 2:22 left in the game on a pair of free throws by Jenny.

Jimmy Whitehead (Sr, La Crosse) scored 20 points for Stout, 13 in the first half, to lead all scorers. Jenny added nine points. Hank Kujak (So, Blair) scored eight points, five over the first three minutes of the game.

Millikin had four players in double digits led by Tive Gardner's 19 points. TJ Griffin and Deavis Johnson each added 16 points, with Elijah Kimmons tossing in 10 points. Johnson had a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Blue Devils were charged with 28 turnovers, while Millikin had 17. Stout held a 35-33 edge off the glass. Stout shot 45.0 percent from the floor (18-40), with Millikin shooting 40.0 percent (22-55).

Stout will play SUNY-Plattsburgh, Monday, Dec. 30. Millikin will play Plattsburgh Sunday, Dec. 29.
