Wittenberg Beats Thomas More For Seventh Straight Win

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - After an 87-70 victory over host Thomas More, the Wittenberg Tigers have won seven straight games. In six of those games, the Tigers have shot 50 percent or better from the field.

Wittenberg made 32-of-57 shots from the field, good for 56 percent, en route to the 17-point win over the Saints. The Tigers improved to 8-1 overall on the 2013-14 season, heading into a weeklong break before the Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic at Wittenberg Dec. 27-28.

Thomas More dropped to 2-7 on the campaign.

Wittenberg broke a 5-5 tie in the early going with an 11-2 run and never looked back. By halftime, the Tigers had built a 45-33 lead and Thomas More was unable to get any closer than seven points over the final 20 minutes.

Four starters scored in double figures for the Tigers, led once again by senior post Scott Masin (New Carlisle, Ohio/Bethel) with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Masin has reached double figures eight straight games and has four double-doubles on the season.

Junior Sam Collins (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) added 21 points, five rebounds and three assists. The scoring total was one off Collins' season-high.

Senior Zack Leahy (Rossford, Ohio/Rossford) contributed 14 points and four assists, while senior Steven Newell (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) chipped in with 12 points - all on three-pointers - and three assists.

While Wittenberg once again found its shooting touch, the Tigers were charged with 22 turnovers, compared with 13 for Thomas More. Wittenberg held a 40-23 rebounding advantage.
