Brooklyn Drops Overtime Thriller to Vaughn, 97-93

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team dropped a 97-93 overtime decision on Wednesday evening at the West Quad Center against the Warriors of Vaughn College.

With the loss, BC drops to 2-3 overall on the year, while Vaughn improves to 5-1 overall on the season.

The first half featured three ties and two lead changes as both teams looked to take control of the game. Following a jumper from Vaughn's Jared Ndiba that tied the game at 22 all with 7:28, the Bulldogs rattled off 11 straight points to take a commanding 33-22 advantage at the 4:04 mark of the period. Sophomore Jamel Gist capped off the scoring surge completing a three-point play by converting a free throw attempt after being fouled on a made layup. Junior Jai Kellman notched five of the 11 points to spark the run. BC would never trail again in the half, as the Bulldogs would go on to take a 10-point halftime lead, 49-39, after a shot from half court by sophomore Egzon Gjonbalaj that beat the buzzer.

BC would lead by double digits for the majority of the second half, leading by as many as 17 on a number of occasions.  Following a layup from Egzon Gjonbalaj that put the home team ahead, 67-50, with 14:27 remaining in the game, the Warriors began their comeback attempt by chipping away at their deficit.

Vaughn would eventually get its deficit down to single digits and take the lead at 83-81 on a three-pointer from Ndiba with just 20 seconds left on the clock. For the Warriors, it would be their first lead since midway through the first half when the visitors held a 17-15 edge. Vaughn's Michael Pena scored 19 points in the second half, going 5-for-8 from three, to help the Warriors erase their 17-point deficit.

The Bulldogs would force overtime on a game-tying put back from junior Justin Staton.

In the overtime period, the Warriors would use their momentum by outscoring the Bulldogs 14-10 in the extra frame to complete their comeback win, 97-93.

Pena finished the game with a game-high 31 points, while Ndiba added 18 points and eight rebounds. Former Bulldog Jeffrey Noel recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Brooklyn had five players in double figures, led by Kellman's team-high 22 points. Gist added 18 points, while Egzon Gjonbalaj chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds. Freshman Harry Hazan had a solid all around game with 10 points, six rebounds and six assists, while junior Valon Djombalic finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Staton grabbed 10 rebounds, to go with seven points.

For the game, BC shot 41.7% (35-84) from the field and 40.0% (8-20) from three. The Bulldogs also shot 60.0% (15-25) from the free throw line.

Vaughn shot 45.8% (33-72) from the field and 34.5% (10-29) from beyond the arc. The Warriors also converted 77.8% (21-27) from the charity stripe.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Friday, December 6th as the Bulldogs will open City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) play hosting the Dolphins of the College of Staten Island. The game is scheduled for a 7:15 pm tip off at the West Quad Center. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 500 fans in attendance with doors opening at 4:15 pm, prior to the start of the women's game at 5:00 pm.
