CAZENOVIA, NY - In a battle of two different halves for the Mavericks, they came up just short in a (88-80) loss to the Cazenovia College Saturday afternoon.

The Mavericks started off slow scoring 29 points in the opening half. They hit on only 28.5% (8 for 28) shooting in the first half, including only 21.4% (3 for 14) from behind the arc. While their offense wasn't great, their defense played well, keeping them in the game. They allowed only 38 first half points for the Wildcats.

The second half was a different story. The Mavericks exploded for 51 second half points and hit on 47.3% (18 for 38) from the field, including hitting on 63.1% (12 of 19) from the free throw line. The Mavericks defense struggled though as they allowed 50 points from the Wildcats, making their comeback effort more difficult.

The Mavericks brought the deficit to five in the second half, but couldn't get enough stops on defense to bring it any lower. They were also outrebounded 41-38 and were outscored by the Wildcats bench 38-34. The Mavs did lead in points off of turnovers as they scored 15 points while the Wildcats scored only 11.

Leading the Mavs was Jammal Coleman who finished with (24) points and added (6) rebounds for the game. In addition, Ryan Grandits chipped in (15) points along with (9) rebounds andLouie Oliveri had (11) points.

The Mavs (0-5) will travel to Hilbert College on Wednesday to open AMCC Conference play at 6 p.m.
