BRONX, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team took its first CUNY Athletic Conference loss of the season, a 73-63 decision to visiting Hunter College, on Wednesday night. The Lightning fall to a 3-3 overall record and 1-1 in CUNYAC play. Hunter is now 3-4, and 1-1.

The Blue and Gold trailed early before sophomore big man Jerrome Jones (Bronx, N.Y./Mt. Vernon) hit a jump shot to pull the Lightning to within one. Senior guard Stanley Stephens (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) followed with a layup to help Lehman jump out to a 4-3 advantage.

Stephens struck again by cashing in from the paint to increase the home team's lead to 6-3. Junior forward Brandon Stolz (Bronx, N.Y./Truman) was also in on Lehman's early offensive attack, as he nailed a three-point basket to put the Lightning up, 9-5, with 16: 12 left in the opening half. After Hunter pulled within two, Stolz attacked the basket, and put Lehman up 11-7, 4:58 into the game.

Senior forward Kelvin Gil (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) drained a three-point basket to advance Lehman's lead, to 16-10, with 13:44 remaining in the first half.  Sophomore reserve forward Olusegun Williams (Bronx, N.Y./DeWitt Clinton) laid the ball up and in to give the Lightning a 20-13 lead with 11:07 left in the first stanza. The seven point advantage was Lehman's largest lead of the game.

From there, the Hawks went on a 10-0 run over a five and a half minute span, to put the visitors up 23-20. Hunter would never surrender the lead for the remainder of the game.

In the second half, Hunter exploded and led by as many as 17. Lehman would not go down quietly as the Lightning's defensive intensity allowed the Lightning to make a run late in the game. However, the Lightning's run was not enough as Hunter pulled away for the victory.

Stolz led Lehman with 15 points. Gil tallied 14 points and forced six steals, while Jones chipped in with 13 points. Junior Kevan Proctor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Lightning will be on the road on Friday, December 6, at Bard College in Annandale, N.Y. Tipoff is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
