Dolphins Drop Skyline Conference Opener At Sage

Troy, N.Y. – The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Basketball team was dealt its fourth straight loss on Monday night with a 101-65 loss on the road at Sage. Junior Anthony Woods (West Palm Beach, Fla.) led three Mount Saint Vincent players in double-figures with a career-high 15 points.

 

Mount Saint Vincent never led in Monday's contest and quickly feel behind by double-figures after the Gators opened the game on a 16-4 run over the first 5:16 of the tilt. The Mount would find itself down 31-13 after a Mason Horne lay-in with 9:43 to play in the first half, before an 8-0 spurt cut the deficit to 10 points. Brandon Serrano (Hempstead, N.Y.) scored all eight points in the run for the Mount.

 

The 10 point deficit would be as close as the Mount would get the rest of the way, as Sage answered with a 12-3 spurt to move in front 43-24 on its way to a 44-28 lead at the intermission. Serrano led all scorers in the half with 12 points, while the Gators were led by 10 points each from Horne and Ryan LaBelle.

 

The Gators opened the second half with a 13-4 run over the first 4:53 of the period to open a 57-32 lead and later moved their advantage to a game-high 48 points on a Marcus Patterson triple with just under eight minutes left in the second half.

 

Sage shot 53.3-percent from the floor in the second half and went 20-for-35 from the free-throw line on its way to scoring 57 points. The Gators had 13 different players score in the second half, led by seven points each from Troy Nwanna and Jacob Sopchak.

 

Woods scored all 15 of his points after halftime for Mount Saint Vincent and finished the game 4-for-7, including a pair of three-pointers, from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. He also added six boards and a block for the Mount. Serrano closed the game with 12 points and freshman Greg Kopcienski (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) recorded a career-high 12 points on 5—for-9 shooting.

 

Horne and LaBelle paced four Sage players in double-figures with 16 points each as the duo combined to go 12-for-19 from the floor and 4-for-8 from three-point range. Horne also led the team with five assists as the Gators assisted on 21 of their 31 field goals.

 

Mount Saint Vincent closed the game shooting 32.4-percent as a team, while the Gators shot just over 49-percent from the night. Sage outscored Mount Saint Vincent 32-14 at the free-throw line, 44-14 in the paint and 20-12 in second chance points.

 

Monday's loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 1-4 overall on the season and to 0-1 in league play. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Wednesday night when it hosts Purchase. Tip-off at the Sharp Center is set for 7:00 p.m.
