Giants Defeat Knights in CSAC Opener, 89-79

La Plume, PA – Keystone College's men's basketball team used a 15-3 run late in the second half to rally for an 89-79 victory over Neumann University in Monday night's Colonial States Athletic Conference opener for the Giants.  Keystone improves to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in the CSAC with the win while the Knights fall to 3-2 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
 
Neumann scored the first eight points of Monday's game but Keystone battled back to tie the score at 17-17 with 12:25 to play in the opening half on a layup by Dan Candemeres (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East).  The Knights outscored the Giants 18-8 over the next five and a half minutes to hold a 35-25 advantage with 6:44 left in the period.  Trailing 39-29 with 3:18 left on the clock, Keystone used a 10-2 burst to narrow their deficit to 41-39 with 47 seconds left in the half before DeShawn Lowman hit a pair of free throws to give the visitors a four-point lead at the break.
 
Reggie Coleman led all players with 19 points in the first half for Neumann while Kevin Green added 10 points in the period for the Knights, who shot 47.1 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent from three-point range, and 80 percent from the free throw line.
 
Duncan Lunsford (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry) paced Keystone's offense in the first 20 minutes of play with 18 points while Jesse Longmire (Harlem, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) and Miles Dargan (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) netted eight points apiece in the opening period.  The Giants shot 45.2 percent from the field, 26.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 58.3 percent from the charity stripe in the first half.
 
Neumann pushed their lead to six points early in the second half before Keystone leveled the contest at 51-51 with 15:36 remaining on a lay-in by DaVaughn Thomas (Port Arthur, TX/Silsbee).  An 11-2 run by the Knights gave them a 57-66 lead with 9:14 remaining, but the Giants used a key 15-3 run to take a 72-69 lead with 2:56 to play when Dargan connected on a three-pointer from the corner.  Keystone would not relinquish that lead and went 15-16 from the free throw line in the closing minutes to pull away with the 10-point win.
 
Lunsford led Keystone with 24 points and six rebounds on the evening as the junior shot 8-13 from the field.  Dargan finished with 19 points on 4-5 shooting from the field, including a 3-4 effort from downtown and a perfect, 8-8 from the free throw line.  Longmire finished with 15 points and Thomas netted 10 points in the win.  Candemeres tied for a game-high with five assists in the win for the Giants, who shot 51.8 percent from the floor on the night including a 40.9 effort from beyond the arc while going 22-29 from the charity stripe.
 
Coleman finished with a game-high 34 points to lead Neumann, who also got 14 points from Lowman.  Kevin Green chipped in 13 points and Mark Blount netted 10 points in the loss.  Coleman and Blount tied for a game-high with eight rebounds apiece.  The Knights finished the contest hitting on 49.2 percent of their field goal chances including a 25 percent effort from three-point range while going 11-14 from the free throw line. 
 
Keystone will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Centenary College in a CSAC contests scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
