The Millikin men's basketball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 93-77 win over Blackburn College on Nov. 30 at the Griswold Center in Decatur, Ill.
Millikin shot 45 percent from the field while Blackburn hit on 50 percent of its attempts. Millikin out rebounded Blackburn 40-30 and forced the Beavers into 26 turnovers resulting in 30 more field goal attempts for the Big Blue. Blackburn kept the game close at the free throw line hitting on 25-29 (86 percent) while Millikin hit only 19-29 (65.5 percent).
Millikin had a balanced scoring attack with five players scoring in double figures. TJ Griffin led the way with 18 points followed by Tives Gardner and Jacob Kueker each with 17. Deavis Johnson had a double double with 11 points and a team high 15 rebounds. Jaylon Owens added 10 points. Gardner had six assists for Millikin and five steals.
Jon Lowry and Jamie Moore each had 18 points for Blackburn followed by Chris Davis with 17.
Millikin will travel to Principia College on Dec. 3 before returning home to host Rose-Hulman on Dec. 9.
