BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior forward John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) scored a career-high 28 points to go along with nine rebounds, and buried two free throws with 1.4 seconds remaining to help visiting Babson College secure a 72-68 win over Lasell College in non-conference men's basketball action on Tuesday night.

With the victory Babson moves to 3-0 on the year while Lasell falls to 0-2 overall.

First-year Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) poured in 21 points while junior Eric Dean (Gilford, N.H.) netted 10 points and hauled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Beavers. Senior Kenny Ross(Furlong, Pa.) also dished out a game-high eight assists in the win.

Senior Brandon Ganesh (West Palm Beach, Fla.) paced four Lasers in double figures with 16 points. Sophomore Richard O'Brien (Manchester, N.H.) had 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting while classmate Clyde Niba (Atlanta, Ga.) chipped in with 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Senior Sonny Mello (Fall River, Mass.) also added 10 points and five boards in the loss.

Babson appeared to put the game away following a reverse layup by Flannery to go up 69-61 with 2:02 left. After the Beavers missed two free throws, Ganesh made a pair for Lasell to pull within 69-63 at the 1:47 mark. The Green and White then committed a shot-clock violation on its next possession, and Mello buried a three for the hosts from the top of the key to make it 69-66 with a minute to go.

Ross missed a three-pointer with 21 seconds remaining and Mello stuck a baseline jumper with 10 seconds to go to cut the Babson lead to just one at 69-68. Two more missed free throws were followed by Dean's only offensive rebound of the night, and he made 1-of-2 from the line after being fouled to give the Beavers a 70-68 edge with seven seconds to go.

The Lasers were unable to get up a shot to tie the game as Flannery took a charge on Ganesh as he drove to the hoop. Wickey was fouled on the final inbounds pass and knocked down a pair from the line for the final margin.

Both teams came out flying as Babson knocked down four early three-pointers while Lasell made six of its first seven shots. Trailing 29-25 with just over eight minutes left in the period, Ross and Wickey converted back-to-back hoops to tie the game and ignite a 14-3 run.

Three free throws from Ganesh offset a three-pointer from Flannrey, but the Beavers ripped off seven straight points, including a triple from first-year Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.), to take its biggest lead of the stanza at 39-32 just 2:53 before halftime. The hosts ripped off an 8-2 run to close though half though, cutting the Green and White's lead to 41-40 at the break.

Trailing 51-50 with 12:16 to go, the Beavers rattled off an 11-0 spurt to take the lead for good. Wickey notched seven points during the decisive run, which gave Babson its biggest lead of the game at 61-51 with 8:23 to go.
