Cam Walker (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Mustangs with 23 of the starting lineup's 29 points, and also had six rebounds and a team-high five steals and three blocks. Treace Macklin (Brockton, Mass.) had 14 points and a team-high five assists off the bench, while Jahari Wright (Austin, Texas) led the Mustangs with nine rebounds.
Mike Carbone and Jon Goldberg led the way for the Lions, each pouring in 13 points on the night, as Emerson improved to 2-1, while Mount Ida drops to 1-2.
The first half saw the Lions shoot 43% from the floor with Jacob Forchheimer and Carbone having eight points apiece. The Emerson defense was stellar as well, forcing 10 Mustang turnovers for 11 points in the first half, to go with 18 points in the paint, and the first half ended 44-17 in favor of the home team.
The Mustangs came out of the break more scrappy and they doubled their shooting percentage to 32% by the end of the game. Walker exploded for 18 points in the second half, while Luke Bibber (Damariscotta, Maine) and Patrick Wenz (Long Island, N.Y.) had four points apiece after halftime.
Emerson capitalized on turnovers again in the second half with 14 points of of eight Mustang miscues. The Lions had a 42-31 edge in rebounds in the game, led by eight boards from Goldberg.
Eli Kell-Abrams paced the Lions with five assists and three steals, while center Brian Hurley had six rebounds and blocked two shots, while scoring nine points.
Mount Ida will get to play on their home court for the first time this season on Saturday afternoon when they host Framingham State at 3:00 pm at Mount Ida Athletic Center.
The Lions return to their home court on Friday to continue their 2013-2014 campaign when they face Tufts at 7 p.m. in Boston at Brown-Plofker Gym.
