Jann leads Colby men's basketball past UMF

WATERVILLE, Maine --- Ryan Jann had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds as the Colby College men's basketball team held on for a 69-58 victory over University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference play Tuesday night.

The Mules move to 2-1 overall and will play host to University of Maine at Fort Kent on Saturday at 2 p.m. on the first day of the Colby Classic.

Jann scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half, shot 3-for-4 from 3-point range, blocked two shots, and had two steals.

Colby took a 35-22 halftime lead and led by 16 points after Jann hit a 3-point shot from the corner with 14:05 to play. Maine-Farmington (1-2 overall), though, battled back behind the shooting of Andrew Dickey to cut the Mules' lead to 59-56 with 4:06 to play.

The Mules went on a 10-2 run to end the game. After a free throw by Jann with 3:46 to play put the Mules up by four, Colby received a layup from Luke Westman with 3:06 left and then a running jumper from Connor O'Neil with 2:26 left for a 64-56 margin. The Beavers had an inside bucket from Ben Johnson with 2:08 left, but Colby scored the final five points of the game.

Westman finished with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, had five assists, and four steals. Chris Hudnut, the NESCAC and Maine Division III Player of the Week for last week's action, added 13 points and O'Neil had eight points (6-for-6 from the foul line).

Dickey was 10-for-11 from the foul line on the way to a game-high 24 points for UMF. Ben Johnson battled inside for 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Nate Carson had seven points.

The Mules forced 11 turnovers in the opening half and had a 14-0 advantage in points off turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
