Pacific Comeback Bid Falls Short In Loss To La Sierra

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – For the second time in their three-game Southern California road trip, Pacific saw a first slip away as La Sierra pulled out a 70-68 victory over the Boxers in men's basketball action at Alumni Pavilion.
 
The Boxers (1-2) held as much as a seven-point lead three times in the opening 20 minutes before the Golden Eagles rallied to take a two-point halftime lead.  La Sierra led for much of the second half, but the Boxers tied the contest at 61-61 with five minutes to go.
 
The Golden Eagles (2-3) went on to build a 68-63 with two minutes to go.  The Boxers were forced to foul for possessions, but La Sierra made their free throws down the stretch to preserve the victory.
 
Daniel Zitani (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) led the Boxers for the second time on the trip, scoring 18 points, on 7 of 13 from the field, to go along with nine rebounds.  Landon Littlefield (So., Henderson, Nev.) added 13 points, including 3 of 4 from three-point range.  Pacific shot 40.7 percent from the field (24-59) and 11 of 24 from the three-point line.
 
Pacific out-rebounded La Sierra 36-32, led by 14 rebounds by Mitch Wettig (Jr., Bend, Ore.).
 
Wolfgang Wood led La Sierra with 18 points on 7 of 13 from the field.  Ian Mozeleski added 15 points off the bench while Daveon Wood scored 14.  The Golden Eagles shot 44.1 percent from the field (26-59) and also hit 11 of 25 from three-point range.
 
Pacific comes to Forest Grove for their 2013-14 home opener, hosting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday.  Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.  A live video webcast will be available at GoBoxers.com.
