Eagles soar past Nor'easters to open tourney

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior guard Eric Webster (Oakland, Calif.) poured in 30 points to power the Daniel Webster College Eagles to an 89-61 win over University of New England in the opening game of the Ramada Roundball Invitational held Saturday (Nov. 16) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win was the second in two days for the Eagles, who tipped-off the 2013-14 season at 12:01 a.m. on Friday morning by edging Rivier College, 79-75, in overtime.

Webster tallied 20 of his game-high 30 points in the opening half, as Daniel Webster raced out to a 50-36 advantage. For the game he finished with five 3-pointers, four steals and three blocked shots.

Sophomore Ryan Gauthier (Nashua, N.H.) knocked down four treys and finished with 17 points for the Eagles, while senior Kevin Perez (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in 16 points. First-year forward Ray Farmer (Nashua, N.H.) added 12 points, eight boards and three blocks.

First-years Justin Pollard (Cape Neddick, Maine) and Brayden Morse (Long Beach, Calif.) combined for 28 points to lead UNE. Pollard made four shots from beyond the arc en route to a team-best 16 points, and Morse posted a double-double (12 points, 10 caroms) in his first collegiate contest.

The Eagles will play Norwich University in tomorrow's 3 p.m. final. Norwich got by Medgar Evers College, 59-47, in the second game of the evening.

The Nor'easters will look to get into the win column against Medgar Evers in the 1 p.m. consolation game.
