BRISTOL, R.I. – Mount Ida finished as the runners up at the Courtyard by Marriot Tip-Off men's basketball tournament hosted by Roger Williams University. The Mustangs suffered an 80-69 defeat to Clark University in the tournament's championship game after beating the host Hawks on Friday night.

Cam Walker (New Bedford, Mass.) was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 36.0 points per game throughout the weekend. Walker followed his record-tying 41 point effort Friday night with 31 more points on Saturday, along with four steals, four rebounds and two assists.

Treace Macklin (Brockton, Mass.) added 14 points and six rebounds, for his second game in double-figures, and Everett Ramirez (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored nine points.

The championship game began with both teams staying neck-and-neck, as evidenced by seven lead changes and seven ties on the first half alone. Clark, however, that closed out the half on a dominant run that helped give the Cougars control of the game. With the score tied 30-all with two minutes to play in the half, Clark rolled off twelve straight points to close out the period. Walker, who was 5-for-9 from downtown, was able to knock down a three at the buzzer to pull the deficit within single digits.

In the second half, Clark held on to its double-digit lead for most of the period. A pair of free throws by Marcus Armstrong (Malden, Mass.) gave Clark its largest lead of the game, a 15-point advantage (57-42) with 14:28 to go. Mount Ida continued to pull itself back into the game, eventually coming within three (63-66) with 5:45 to go on another three-ball, this one by Macklin.

However, seven straight Cougar points brought the lead back to double-digits, and the Mustangs would not come closer than seven over the rest of the game.

Sophomore Tyree Singletary (Newark, N.J.) led Mount Ida with four assists, while freshman Jahari Wright (Austin, Texas) had two blocks and five points off the bench.

Tournament MVP Andrew Musler (Belmont, Mass.) finished with 24 points and 12 rebonds to lead Clark, while all-tournament team selection Nicholas DaPrato (Marshfield, Mass.) finished with 20 points. Joseph Atkinson (Milford, Mass.) went for eight points, five assists, and four steals.

Vassar College finished the tournament in third place after an 81-71 victory over hosts Roger Williams in the consolation game.

Mount Ida will be on the road again next Wednesday evening when they travel to Emerson for a 5:30 pm tip-off.
