NEW YORK, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team lost a heartbreaker in overtime Wednesday evening as the Bloodhounds lost to Brooklyn College 91-90 at the Doghouse.

The loss was John Jay's third in a row, all against conference teams, as the Bloodhounds fall to 13-11 (9-6 CUNYAC), while Brooklyn ups its record to 10-12 (8-6 CUNYAC).

The host Bloodhounds got off to a hot start. Playing their final regular season home game, John Jay played in front of a loud packed house, enjoyed senior night for four seniors (Zacchaerus Branch, Wilson Tenorio, Swindon Charles and Isaiah Holman) and got off to a rocking start, which included a 21 point first half lead. But the visiting Bulldogs overcame the huge deficit and took the lead in the latter stages of the second half, before winning the game in overtime.

The Bloodhounds opened play by taking a double digit lead just over five minutes gone by. And the John Jay lead swelled the remainder of the stanza. The Bloodhounds' largest lead of the half came with 1:29 to play when they took a 44-23 lead before going into halftime up 47-30.

Isaiah Holman scored a game-high 30 points, including 21 in the first half. He connected on 5-of-9 from three point range and was 10-for-19 overall. Jamar Harry added a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Harry also contributed seven assists and four steals in the contest, while Darryl Dennis came off the bench and provided 14 points and four assists.

Brooklyn was led by Egzon Gjonbalaj with 23 points, five rebounds and seven steals, while Kavon Baker added 17 points and eight assists.

The Bloodhounds still held a double-digit lead with under 10 minutes remaining. John Jay was ahead 66-52 with 9:31 to go before Brooklyn started to take cuts, deeper and deeper into the lead. The Bulldogs used a 20-4 run in just over six and a half minutes to take their first lead of the night as Brooklyn went ahead 72-70 with 2:55 remaining.

The final three minutes saw two ties and Brooklyn lead by as much as four. John Jay never retook the lead, but tied the game at 77 with twenty-five seconds left before going into overtime.

Brooklyn opened the extra session scoring the first five points to take an 82-77 lead. But the Bloodhounds countered with a 7-2 spurt to tie the score at 84 with 2:15 to go.

The Bulldogs went back up by four and led 88-84 with fifty-two seconds left. But John Jay answered with a 6-2 run to tie the score at 90 with sixteen seconds left. Continuation three point plays by Dennis and Harry highlighted the spurt.

But with the shot clock off Brooklyn drew a foul with 3.1 second left and went 1-for-2 from the line to take the lead.

John Jay got a good look at a buzzer beater from the baseline, but the last second shot came up short as Brooklyn escaped with the narrow win.

The Bloodhounds shot 47.8 percent (32-for-67) from the floor, including 56.3 percent (18-for-32) in the first half. John Jay committed a season-high 34 turnovers, leading to a 38-27 Brooklyn advantage on points off turnovers (Brooklyn committed 27 turnovers).  Brooklyn shot a combined 52.2 percent (24-for-46) during the overtime period.
