Men's Basketball Falls Short at William Paterson

WAYNE, N.J.— The John Jay men's basketball team, in its final non-conference game of the regular season, was defeated 76-65 at nationally prominent William Paterson University Monday afternoon.
 
The loss snaps John Jay's two game winning streak and drops the Bloodhounds to 11-6 this season, while William Paterson improves to 12-6.
 
John Jay's duo of Isaiah Holman and Jamar Harry had big scoring games as Holman poured in 29, leaving him just three shy of 1,000 for his career, while Harry added 26 giving him 970. Harry added eight rebounds, six steals and four assists in the contest.
 
William Paterson was led by Lance Brown with 20 points, while Bright Mensah added 17 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The host Pioneers led from start to finish. They opened the game on a 12-0 run for its biggest lead of the contest. The Bloodhounds stayed within striking once they got their first basket. John Jay pulled to within as little as three with just over four and a half minutes to go and was down 33-29.
 
The Bloodhounds were down by as little as four on two other occasions in the first period, most recent with just under two minutes to go after a pair of free throws by Harry that made the score 38-34 William Paterson.
 
The Pioneers closed out the first half scoring four unanswered points to lead 42-34 at halftime.
 
John Jay, in the second half, pulled to within one point on two occasions. But the Pioneers answered both times en route to keeping the lead. The Bloodhounds pulled to within a point at the 13:51 mark of the second half as they trailed 45-44. But William Paterson skated away with a 10-2 burst a minute and sixteen seconds later to go back up nine with 12:35 to play.
 
But John Jay battled and pulled to within one point of the lead again with 6:12 to play as the Pioneers had a 62-61 lead. But from there William Paterson established another 10-2 run to take another nine point lead as the Pioneers went ahead 72-63 with just under a minute to play before the game ended.
 
John Jay returns to action on Wednesday for a game at conference foe CCNY at 2 p.m.
