Men's Basketball Suffers First Conference Loss this Season to York

JAMAICA, N.Y.— The John Jay men's basketball team lost its first conference game of the season as the Bloodhounds fell narrowly to York College 82-81 on the road Friday evening.
 
The loss marks John Jay's first losing streak of the season. The Bloodhounds are now 6-4 (3-1 CUNYAC), while York College is now 6-6 (2-1 CUNYAC).
 
The Bloodhounds were led by Jamar Harry who had 26 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and four steals, while Isaiah Holman added 15 points. Darryl Dennis and Michael Howard also scored in double figures for John Jay. Dennis had 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Howard had 12 points on four three point field goals.
 
York was led by Tony Vails with 25 points and six rebounds, while Donald Rodriguez added 20.
 
The contest saw nine lead changes and neither team leading by more than nine.
 
The Bloodhounds led by six with under three minutes to go before York established a final run to take the lead and win the game.
 
The host Cardinals took the lead for good in the final minute on a pair of free throws by Vails to put York ahead 81-79. Another York foul shot moment later extended the lead to three.
 
The Bloodhounds attempt to tie the came up short after a missed three point attempt. But an offensive rebound and put back by the Bloodhounds narrowed the York lead back to a point with five seconds left.
 
After an immediate foul, York missed both free throws to give John Jay a chance to win at the buzzer. But John Jay failed to get off a final shot as York held on for the win.
