NABC Release
Capital University senior Spencer Niekamp of the Crusader men's basketball team is up for a fan vote to qualify for the 2013 Reese's Division III College All-Star Game later this month. Voting begins at noon today and concludes Wednesday, March 13, at noon.
Sixteen seniors representing each of the eight regions have already been selected to the all-star contest by a committee vote set up by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Fans will be able to choose from a list of eight seniors, each representing a region. The top two vote-getters will earn the final roster spots.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, at 3:30 p.m. in Salem, Va. It will take place at the Salem Civic Center prior to the NCAA Tournament semifinal games.
Niekamp recently completed his stellar four-year career as the men's basketball program's No. 12 all-time scorer with 1,288 points. He helped lead the Crusaders to their second straight Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championships, garnering OAC Player of the Year accolades and being named first team all-conference for the second straight year.
Last season, Niekamp was named second team NABC All-District and third team D3hoops.com All-Region after Capital won the league regular season and tournament titles and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
