Junior forward Zach Riedeman had 16 points and six assists and the No. 1-ranked Tommies (27-1) shot 56 percent from the floor in Saturday night's 91-62 win over Aurora (Ill.) in an NCAA men's basketball first-round playoff game at UST's Schoenecker Arena.
Scott Laskowski had 18 points and seven rebounds for Aurora (21-7), the Northern Athletics Conference champion.
UST improved to 15-0 at home this season. The Toms used first-half runs of 13-0 and 13-4 to build a 42-22 halftime lead. The Tommies helped limit the Spartans to 34-percent shooting and held them 20 under their season scoring average of 82 points.
St. Thomas also had a 48-35 rebounding advantage and outscored the Spartans 27-6 from 3-point range.
Senior Tommy Hannon posted his ninth career double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Conner Nord added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Marcus Alipate added 10 points.
St. Thomas plays No. 22-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) next Saturday night in round two with the site to be announced. Wheaton (21-6) posted a 59-58 home comeback win over St. Norbert.
