BUFFALO, NY - The 4th seeded Medaille men hosted 5th seed Mt. Aloysius College this evening in the opening round of the AMCC Tournament.  The Mavs shot the ball tremendously in dispatching of the Mounties (97-68) to advance to the semifinals.

In a game that never saw Medaille trail on the scoreboard, it was clear early on that it would be the Mavs night.  When the dust settled, the Mavs finished the game shooting (57.1%) from the floor while Mt. Aloysius connected on just (31.3%) of their field goal attempts.  Much of that was due to the stifling pressure that Medaille put on every ball handler throughout the game.

The Mavs strong defensive effort forced the Mounties into (24) turnovers which the Mavs turned into (31) points.  They were also able to control the lane, outscoring the visitors (38-24) in the paint.

Continuing his tremendous play was sophomore Jammal Coleman who led all scorers with (23) points, and he did so on (9 of 12) shooting from the floor, while also dishing out (5) assists.  The Mavs shared the ball well all night, assisting on (25 of 36) field goals in the game.

Senior point guard Josh Laureano directed the Medaille offense brilliantly with a game high (7) assists, several of which brought the crowd out of their seats.  He would also pull down a team high (9) rebounds in the win.

The Mavs received three strong shooting performances off the bench with Putter Brown leading the way.  He knocked down all four shots that he took, finishing with (10) points.  Junior Robby Seyler went (5 for 7) en route to a (12) point outing while Ryan Grandits chipped in with (6) points on (3 of 5) shooting, including a pretty crossover dribble layup that staggered his defender and drew a roar from the Maverick faithful.

Senior Tyler Stevens knocked down (3 of 5) shots from beyond the arc on an (11) point, (5) rebound night while Alex Baron finished with a dozen points of his own.

The win improves the Mavs to (17-9) and it extends their season as they will head to Hilbert to face the top seeded Hawks on Friday (2/22) at 6:00pm.  The Mavs won both matchups with Hilbert during the regular season.  The winner of that game will play for the AMCC Title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Saturday (2/23) against the winner of the 2 La Roche vs. 3 Penn State-Behrend game, the finals will also be on the campus of Hilbert College.
