More news about: Albertus Magnus

Senior Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) scored a career-high 34 points, including his 1,000th career-point, to lead the Albertus Magnus men's basketball team over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday night in the Falcons' final home regular-season game.

With the victory, the Falcons improve to 21-3 on the year and 15-2 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Monks drop to 15-9 overall with tonight's loss and 10-7 in the league standings.

Jackson's jumper with 2:10 left in regulation gave the Falcons a 71-64 lead as it also gave the senior his 1,001 career-point.  After two free-throws with 36 seconds left to secure the Falcons' victory, Jackson finished the game with 1,003 career points. Tonight marked his fifth game of the year with 20 or more points, while he also finished with six assists.

Junior Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) came off the bench for the Falcons and netted 15 points and six boards.  Jefferson Lora (Bronx, N.Y.) also had a solid outing for the Falcons as he tallied seven steals, two blocked shots and nine rebounds.

The Falcons opened the contest with a 6-0 run in the first 1:40 before the Falcons found themselves down 11-9 and then 14-11 after three consecutive free-throws by Matthew Medeiros. After opening the game with the first six points, the Falcons were held without a bucket for a span of four minutes. Albertus climbed back to tie the game at 22 before the Monks went on a 10-1 run to jump out to a 32-23 lead, their largest of the contest.

The Monks held a five-point advantage at the break at 35-30 before the Falcons came out in the second half to shoot 61.5% from the floor, including a 5-of-9 clip from behind the arc.

Saint Joseph's College committed 26 turnovers in the contest as the Falcons scored 21 points off those miscues. The final score of the night, which was a 10-point advantage for the Falcons, was their largest lead of the contest.

Jackson's 1,003 points makes him the 12th all-time Albertus Magnus men's basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone. He currently sits 49 points shy of Curtis Miller's (2000-04) career tally of 1,052.

Albertus will play its final regular-season contest on Saturday, Feb. 16 at Johnson & Wales (R.I.). That match-up is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
