A 13-3 run early in the second half pushed The College of Wooster's lead to double digits for the first time and the No. 9 ranked Fighting Scots never looked back from there in rolling to an 86-64 victory at Allegheny College in North Coast Athletic Conference action Wednesday night.

After an up-and-down first half that saw Wooster (21-3, 14-1 NCAC) finish with a 44-41 advantage on the scoreboard, it turned up the defense during the early stages of the second. In fact, the Scots only yielded one field goal to Allegheny (9-15, 3-12 NCAC) the opening six-plus minutes, which included the aforementioned run that resulted in a commanding 60-46 lead.

Josh Claytor played an instrumental role in that stretch, accounting for six of the 13 points as well as three rebounds, a blocked shot, and a steal.

The margin dipped under double figures just once more when Allegheny pulled within 60-51, only to see Wooster rattle off 12 unanswered points and essentially seal the outcome.

The Scots shot 55.9 percent from the field (33-for-59), including 11-of-23 3-pointers (.478), and their defense held the Gators to a mere 7-for-27 (.259) during the second half to lower the hosts' rate for the game to 42.9 percent (24-for-56). Wooster also won the rebounding battle 39-27.

Individually, Claytor shared team scoring honors with Xavier Brown at 16 points apiece. Claytor's line included 6-of-7 field goals, and they also each had seven rebounds as did Alex LaLonde, while Brown matched a career high with six assists as well.

Also for the Scots, Doug Thorpe made 3-of-5 from outside the arc as part of a 13-point night.

Ryan Stanko had the hot hand for Allegheny, tallying a game-high 21 points.

On Saturday afternoon, Wooster closes out the regular season at DePauw University (15-9, 8-7 NCAC).
