Beavers Fall to Bulldogs in Season Finale

NEW YORK – Terence Johnston scored 12 of his 15 points in the second-half to lead a late surge by the City College of New York but Brooklyn College shot 54 percent from the field and 82 percent from the charity stripe as the Beavers ended the regular season on a sour note, falling 78-65, on Tuesday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium.

Johnston was 4-of-8 from the field in the second half and finished with 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals while sophomore forward Jordan Ortega continued his hot shooting, going 6-of-9 and finishing with 15 points and six rebounds. Senior Paul Dail did not disappoint after being honored before the game, posting 11 points, six assists and six rebounds.

CCNY ends the season 10-15 overall and 6-10 in conference play while the Bulldogs finished 9-7 against conference opponents and 11-13 overall.

Four Bulldogs reached double figures, led by Jeffrey Noel's game-high 23 points.

Down by as much as 17, the Beavers rallied back and cut their deficit to eight before trading baskets with Brooklyn College until the latter stages of the contest.

Zachary Heiss knocked in two triples to lead the Beavers with eight first-half points as CCNY entered the half trailing by 10.

CCNY heads to the quarterfinals in the City University of New York Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, the first time the Beavers will play in a playoff game since the 2009-10 season.

Tip-off is set for Sunday, Feb. 17 at a time and venue to be determined.
