EAU CLAIRE (February 9, 2013) - UW-Stout made use of their numerous trips to the free throw line and went on to a 70-54 win to complete the season sweep over UW-Eau Claire Satuday at Zorn Arena.
The Blue Devils (18-5. 10-4 WIAC) made 26-of-35 free throws (74.3 percent), with Chris Hortman (Sr, Wauwatosa), who scored a game-high 21 points, making all six of his free throw attempts.
Alex Oman (Jr, Lake Elmo, Minn) scored 18 points and was 5-of-6 from the line and Erik Olson (Sr, Buffalo, Minn) scored 12 points and was 8-of-11 from the free throw line.
The Blugolds (10-13, 4-10 WIAC), in contrast, hit on 11-of-21 free throw shots (52.4 percent).
Stout never trailed in the contest, and built a 10 point, 11-1, lead over the first six minutes as Oman scored seven points in the run. Eau Claire would never get closer than five points at any time during the game, the last time coming at the 8:00 minute mark of the first half. Hortman hit a 3-pointer and a lay-up to take the lead back up to 10 points. Stout held a 32-22 halftime lead.
Stout built on their lead throughout the second half, hitting 20-of-28 free throw shots.
Nick Craggs led the Blugolds with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Dustin Kalien added 12 points and Eric Effertz came off the bench to contribute 10.
Stout shot 48.8 percent (21-of-43) from the field for the game, while holding Eau Claire to 31.7 percent shooting (19-of-60). The Blugolds outrebounded Stout, 38-35. Jarvis Ragland (Jr, Milwaukee) led Stout off the boards with eight and Thomas Scholle-Malone (Sr, Milwaukee) had five.
Stout will host UW-Stevens Point, Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m., then will close out the regular season when they host UW-Oshkosh, Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m.
