(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College men's basketball team clinched its second straight and third-ever 20-win season today (Saturday, February 9, 2013) as it defeated Thiel College, 72-62, on Senior Day at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
The Saints improve to 20-3 overall and 13-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) with the win and extend their winning streak to 11 games. With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 12-9 overall and 9-6 in the PAC.
Thomas More jumped out to a 15-6 lead with 10:39 to play in the game when senior point guard Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) made a three-pointer. Thiel answered with a 14-3 run to take a 20-18 lead on an Anthony Harvey three-pointer with 3:42 to play in the game. The Saints closed out the half on an 8-7 run to cut the lead to 27-26 at halftime.
The Saints opened the second half on an 11-5 run to take a 37-32 lead when junior power forward Josef Marshall (Dayton, Ohio/Trotwood) made two free-throws with 16:26 to play in the game. The Tomcats responded with a 19-12 run to retake the lead at 51-49 with 8:27 to play in the game when Harvey made a lay-up. Thomas More closed out the game on a 23-11 run capped by two free-throws by junior small forward Brandon Housley (Covington, Ky./Holmes) with 19-seconds to play in the game for the 72-62 victory.
Junior point guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) led all scorers with 21 points and was joined in double-figure scoring by Housley with 14 points and Marshall with 13 points. Housley and junior point guard Spencer Berlekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Kings) led the team on the boards with five rebounds each, while Berlekamp led the team in assists with four.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (February 13) when it hosts Bethany College at 7:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center.
