OSWEGO, N.Y. – A 16-4 run to open the second half helped SUNY Oswego (16-5, 9-5) push past the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team (8-13, 6-8 SUNYAC), 74-57, in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Tuesday night at Max Ziel Gymnasium. The win marked Oswego's 20th straight over New Paltz dating back to the 2000-01 campaign, and it gave the Lakers the season sweep over the Hawks.

New Paltz was hurt by 32.7 percent (18-of-55) shooting from the floor, and the Hawks committed 15 turnovers to the Lakers' seven. Furthermore, Oswego scored 19 points off turnovers, and the Lakers held a 43-37 edge on the glass. New Paltz did shoot 85.7 percent (18-of-21) from the free-throw line, though, and the Hawk bench chipped in 14 points.

In the early goings of the contest, it appeared to be a back-and-forth battle, with New Paltz eventually claiming the lead off a made free-throw shot by freshman guard Keegan Donovan (Groton, N.Y./Groton) at 17:33 of first half. Oswego countered by fashioning an 11-0 scoring spree, and a made layup by Daniel Ross gave the Lakers a 10-point edge. Neither side was able to put much of a dent into that advantage from that point forward in the stanza, and Oswego took a 34-24 lead into the locker room.

The Lakers erupted for a 16-4 run to start the second half, during which Hayden Ward rattled off eight points, and a three-pointer by Ross at 13:11 of the second half gave the home team a 55-33 cushion. With the game out of hand down the stretch, both sides emptied their benches, and the Hawks closed the contest on a 14-7 run.

Senior forward Matt Devine (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) paced the Hawk attack with 16 points, and he added a team-high nine rebounds. Freshman forward Kevin Roach (Levittown, N.Y./MacArthur) also reached double figures, netting a career-high 13 points.

For Oswego, Ward drained a game-high 18 points and chipped in 12 rebounds to complete the double-double. Alex Mirabito posted a career-high 12 points, while Daniel Ross came up with a game-high four steals.

New Paltz looks to continue its battle for a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs on Friday, Feb. 8, as it hosts Buffalo State at 8 p.m. at the Hawk Center.
