Boston, Mass.–Junior guard Tom DeCiantis (North Kingstown, RI) poured in a game-high 15 points off the bench to lead the Rhode Island College men's basketball team to an 81-50 victory over UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Athletic Center in Little East Conference action.

The Anchormen (18-3, 9-1 LEC) have won 10 of their last 11 games and remain locked into first place in Little East Conference standings, while Saturday also marked the eighth time this season that RIC has held an opponent to 50 points or less.

Rhode Island College jumped out to a 38-15 lead at the break, spearheaded by a 15-0 run to close out the half. Sparked by 12 points from DeCiantis and 10 points from sophomore forward Alex Cruz (East Hartford, CT), the Anchormen shot 48 percent (11-for-23) from the floor through the first 20 minutes and held the Beacons (9-11, 3-7 LEC) to just 19 percent (5-for-27) shooting.

Cruz finished with 12 points for the visitors, while senior guard Tahrike Carter (Brooklyn, NY) added 10 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals to help guide the Anchormen to their 10th consecutive victory over UMass Boston.

Sophomore forward Chris Burton (New Rochelle, NY) chipped in with 12 points and four rebounds, while senior center Steven Roberts (New Haven, CT) tallied seven points. Freshman guard Jazz Robinson (Pawtucket, RI) recorded three points, five boards and three steals in just six minutes off the bench.

Senior guard Mike Mitchell Jr. (Dorchester, MA) led the Beacons with 13 points and three assists. Sophomore forward Brian Clarke (Miramar, FL) tallied four points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench.

For the game, the Anchormen shot 44 percent (27-for-61) from the floor, 41 percent from beyond the arc (7-for-17) and 74 percent (20-for-27) from the free throw line. UMass Boston shot 33 percent from the floor (18-for-54), 19 percent from downtown (3-for-16), and 61 percent from the charity stripe (11-for-18).

RIC outrebounded the hosts, 45-33, and turned the ball over just 12 times, compared to 19 turnovers for the Beacons.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference play at home against UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, Feb. 5 (7:30 p.m.).
