Lynchburg Stuns Guilford, 86-66, in ODAC Men's Contest

GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Manny Hernandez had 25 points in Lynchburg College's 86-66 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over host Guilford Wednesday night in the Ragan-Brown Field House. The Quakers' second straight loss marked their first home setback of the season.

The Hornets (15-3, 6-3 ODAC) led the entire first half until Guilford's (14-4, 6-3 ODAC) Matt McCarthy hit a three-pointer with two seconds on the clock to send the Quakers into the locker room ahead by one, 36-35, at the half.

Guilford increased its lead when the second half began. A Josh Pittman three-pointer opened a 53-44 lead with 13:29 left in the game, but Lynchburg rallied. Three straight three-pointers by senior reserve Robby Kaiser turned the tide, putting the Hornets up for good, 56-55, with 10:49 left. A McCarthy three brought the Quakers to within 63-62 with eight minutes left, but Lynchburg ended the game on a 23-3 run that included 16-of-17 free-throw shooting.

Andrew Simmons had 13 points and Austen Arnold added 10 for Lynchburg. Austin Chillemi snagged game-highs in rebounds (10) and blocks (2). Simmons and Brandan Connor led the Hornets with three assists apiece. Mike Glover was eight-for-eight from the line to help Lynchburg to 90.9% shooting from the stripe in the game.

Pittman shared game-high points honors (25) with Hernandez, scoring 16 of his points in the first half. He also paced the Quakers with eight assists and went five-for-six from the free throw line. McCarthy finished with 11 points and stood second on the team in assists (5). Zeb Richardson's eight rebounds led the team and Jake Hopkins had eight points and grabbed seven boards. Will Freeman scored eight points off the bench.

Guilford visits 23rd-ranked Hampden-Sydney Saturday (1/23). The Quakers scored a 68-54 win over the Tigers Jan. 5 in the teams' first meeting this season.
