PASADENA, CA – The Caltech men's basketball team came up with clutch jump shots and key stops late in the game as they posted a 60-59 win over Bard on Saturday evening.

Saturday night's game featured 12 lead changes and seven ties with the contest coming down to the closing moments.

"It was a total team effort this evening. We played hard on both ends of the court and our game long intensity paid off," fifth year head coach Oliver Eslinger said.

The game's final sequences all fell in the Beavers favor. Trailing 59-55 with 1:51 left in the game, Michael Edwards nailed a three-pointer at the 1:31 mark to cut the Beavers deficit to 59-58. After a Sionbdueh Burnette turnover on Bard's next possession, Caltech took the lead on an Edwards' jumper with 40 seconds left. It was the final lead change in the contest.

Bard's next opportunity resulted in a miss lay-up but Caltech couldn't take advantage as they missed the front end of a 1-and-1 with 20 ticks on the clock. The Raptors final possession saw Lamar Powell drive to bucket but his attempt was swatted out of bounds by Andrew Hogue.

After a 30-second timeout by Bard, the Raptors in-bounds pass was intercepted by Edwards with five seconds left. The senior dribbled out the clock as Caltech posted their first win of the season.

In a nip-and-tuck first half neither team held a lead bigger than six points. During the final eight minutes of the half there were six lead changes. Caltech's biggest lead of the stanza came with 3:47 left as they held a 20-16 edge. Bard had a six point lead early in the frame when they were up 8-2 with 13:56 left.

The Raptors' Pat Lichtenstein scored on a driving lay-up with two ticks left on the clock to give the visitors a 26-25 lead at halftime.

Edwards led all scorers with a 17-point evening. The senior went 6-for-14 from the field in 35 minutes of action. Sophomore Kc Emezie came off the bench to post a 13-point performance on the strength of a 6-for-8 shooting effort.

Powell led a trio of players in double figures for Bard by scoring 16 in his 29 minutes of action.
