New York, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team dropped a 64-59 decision to the Hawks of Hunter College in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) at the Hunter Sportsplex on Wednesday night. With the loss, BC falls to 3-10 overall on the season and 2-5 in the CUNYAC; while Hunter moves to 7-9 overall on the year and 4-3 in conference play.

Senior Kavon Baker led all scorers with a game-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds and four steals. Freshman Egzon Gjonbalaj finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while senior Steven Grant added 10 points. Senior Abdul Lanlokun grabbed seven rebounds and freshman Shayne Martinez had a solid game with six points and five rebounds playing in just 12 minutes.

Hunter's Lester Anim dropped a team-high 17 points, while Brian Kruger and Taulant Ibraj added nine and eight points, respectively. Lorenzo Brown grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, to go with six points. Eric Kippins finished with seven points and eight rebounds, while Peter Koutsoloukas chipped in with six points and eight rebounds.

The Hawks never trailed in the game as the closest the Bulldogs got to taking the lead was an early 2-2 tie on a layup from Lanlokun at the 19:15 mark of the opening period.

BC got to within one on a few occasions, but would be unable to get over the hump. After Baker's layup cut Brooklyn's deficit to one, 20-19, with 5:43 remaining before the halftime break, the Hawks used a 10-0 run fueled by three Hunter trifectas to take an 11-point advantage, 30-19, at the 3:24 mark. The home team would eventually take a 15-point cushion, 39-24, into the locker room.

The Hawks would continue to control the second half, as the Bulldogs spent the entire period chipping away at their deficit. Brooklyn would outscore the Hawks by 10, 35-25, during the second half, but it would not be enough to erase the Bulldogs 15-point halftime hole.

Brooklyn got to within two, 61-59, following a free throw from senior Jeffrey Noel with just 21 seconds left on the clock, but that's as close as BC would get, as the Hawks hit key free throws in the final seconds to take the 64-59 win. The Bulldogs had a chance to tie the game and potentially force overtime in their final possession, but were unable to convert the last second three-point attempt.

For the game, BC shot 32.8% (22-67) from the field and 18.2% (2-11) from three. The Bulldogs also shot 61.9% (13-21) from the line.

Hunter posted very similar numbers, as the Hawks shot 33.8% (22-65), including 29.4% (5-17) from beyond the arc and 68.2% (15-22) from the charity stripe.

Hunter also won the rebounding battle, 57-44.

Brooklyn returns to action this Saturday, January 19th, as the Bulldogs will play host to the Beavers of The City College of New York (CCNY) in a vital CUNYAC matchup that will go a long way in determining seeding for the conference tournament in February. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm at the West Quad Center.
